Spotlight on Sponsorships: Satisfy Food Rescue

Every year, MainPower looks at ways we can support North Canterbury Communities - just like they support us! We do this through sponsorships and community fund initiatives.  During 2022, MainPower embarked on a multi-year sponsorship with Satisfy Food Rescue. This organisation is bridging the gap by re-directing an overwhelming abundance of food in the North Canterbury community and redistributing it to where it is needed most.

Recently we took a trip down to the Satisfy HQ to meet some of the fantastic staff and volunteers that make this organisation what it is. With a headcount of 45+ (consisting of volunteers, 6 trustees and regular staff) it is safe to say that it is all hands-on deck.

We witnessed first-hand just how much the rescue receives per delivery, to unload, re-pack and re-distribute the food to the recipient organisations around North Canterbury & Christchurch the facility is a bustling hub of activity from start to finish.

Being able to see the dedication and pride within this team was incredible, with 61% of the 51 volunteers having been with the organisation for over 3 years. The team logs around 70 volunteer hours per week, receiving food donations from 9 local supermarkets, multiple cafes, and local produce growers there is no shortage of supplies to keep the impact of this organisation at an all time high.

Looking into the impact that Satisfy has is phenomenal, with approximately 20 tonnes of food distributed every month and 53,000 equivalent meals per month being supplied to the community. Their impact aligns heavily with our business’s own values, and we are thrilled to be able to support such a crucial and dedicated organisation fulfilling the needs of our community.

When asked about how they are attracting more financial donors, we discussed the current partnership with Naked Cuisine, producing a “local Heroes” soup to raise money for Satisfy. The soup can be found in the chiller aisle of your local supermarket, complete with the Satisfy Food Rescue logo.

For every pouch of this soup sold, satisfy receives 20 cents. The Lentil, Potato and Caramelised Onion Soup is being sold throughout New Zealand, promoting the brand awareness all over the country.
