Prepare for a power outage at home, on your farm, for your business, or if you are a medically dependent customer.

Power outages can happen at any time. Whether it’s a planned or unplanned outage, you should be prepared with a no-power plan in the event of no power. Scroll down for links to our no-power plan checklists.

Please note, MainPower does not provide generators for planned or unplanned outages. Please speak with your electrician to better understand your generation requirements.

Outage notifications

Urgent Transpower repairs - Hurunui and Kaikōura regions

Due to an urgent Transpower issue, power needs to be reduced across the Hurunui and Kaikoura regions on Friday 28 November 2025, by at least 30% to allow repairs to be carried out.

Customers in these regions are being asked to reduce power as much as possible from 8:30am to 3pm.

Controllable irrigation and hot water will be turned off throughout this period.

If the reduction isn’t met, power supply may need to be turned off to safely complete repairs so please prepare for power outages.

Treat all lines as live during the outage period; power may be restored at any time. If you require further information, please call MainPower’s 24-hour faults line. To report an emergency, call 111.
