Southbrook Substation Upgrade

Overview: Rangiora and the surrounding area is experiencing significant growth through new subdivisions and businesses. Southbrook zone substation, which supplies this region, currently operates at 33kV. This project upgrades the substation to a higher capacity 66kV/11kV 40MVA zone substation. This also improves operational capability with neighbouring zone substations and improves the Southbrook site’s resilience.

We are currently experiencing a widespread power outage in Kaikōura and the Conway Flat area.

We have two helicopters in the air as well as a number of team members patrolling the line from the ground.

We will update you as soon as we have more information.

Until we know the cause we are encouraging customers to enact their ‘No Power’ plans.

Please prepare to be without Power for several hours while we investigate the outage cause.
