MainPower’s chief executive stepping down

MainPower Chief Executive Andy Lester announced this morning he has resigned from his position and will finish on 1 June 2025. He was appointed to the role in 2017.

MainPower Chair Tony King said Andy has successfully guided the organisation through major industry shifts.

“Andy’s made a big impact at MainPower, and we wish him all the best. His leadership has been crucial in steering our organisation through a period of challenge and change in the energy sector.”

Andy Lester said he is really proud of what’s been achieved at MainPower over the last seven and a half years.

“It’s been great to lead such a committed, dedicated team, and I’m happy to be leaving the company in a strong position. It’s a great time for me to move on and I’m looking forward to spending more time with my family.”

The MainPower Board will shortly begin a thorough recruitment process for a replacement CEO. In the interim, Chief Assets and Operations Officer Damien Whiffen will be Acting Chief Executive.

“We are confident we will attract an experienced and passionate candidate to this role. MainPower retains a strong industry position and there are rich opportunities ahead for the energy sector,” Chair Tony King said.

Raramai Tunnel works, SH1, Peketā

MainPower will be carrying out essential network upgrade work at the Raramai Tunnel next week. This work will require single lane stop/go traffic management with potential road closures (maximum 20 minute duration) that may affect travel plans for some of our customers. 

Location: Raramai Tunnel, SH1, Peketā

  • Monday 9 to Wednesday 11 February: Parking bays and the pedestrian walkway north of the tunnel will be closed for equipment laydown and construction. 
  • From 6.00am Tuesday 10 to 8.00pm Thursday 12 February: Stop/go traffic management will be in place with traffic reduced to one lane through the tunnel to support helicopter and construction activity. Stop/go will remain overnight, controlled by lights.

Timings may vary due to weather. Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to plan ahead or use alternative routes..
