Community Ownership of Tuhoe
| MainPower supported the Kaiapoi community’s wish that the MV Tuhoe and its pilot vessel, Esa-Lei be retained in the town and transferred to community ownership. Through sponsorship funding of $35,000 the Kaiapoi community was able to retain the vessel and ownership is now vested in the hands of the community under a charitable trust. Secondary Schools MainPower Book Prize
Each year MainPower provides sponsorship for each secondary school within the Waimakariri, Hurunui and Kaikoura District to be used to acknowledge educational excellence at the Senior Prize Giving. The sponsorship is in the form of books to the value of $150 for the Year 13 student at each school who has excelled in Physics or Mathematics. MainPower also gives the student a voucher for a further $150 towards the cost of their first year tertiary books.
Enterprise North Canterbury
MainPower, as one of the bigger businesses in the North Canterbury region has taken a leadership role in supporting the economic growth and development of the region. Annually MainPower supports Enterprise North Canterbury in its role as the economic and business development agency for the North Canterbury region. One of the core objectives of Enterprise North Canterbury is to sustain and grow existing business and promote new business in the region.
North Canterbury Business Awards

Environmental Sponsorships
MainPower is committed to the protection of the environment and the company monitors it's environmental best practice objectives to ensure it aligns with MainPower’s Code of Sustainable Practice. MainPower demonstrates leadership and continual improvement in sustainability, and environmental management practices and performance both in the company and also within the community.
To support meaningful environmental projects and activities MainPower sponsors, in conjunction with Hurunui District Council the annual MainPower Hurunui Environmental Awards. $10,000 is given annually to projects in the Hurunui area judged as improving or benefiting the natural environment.
