2009 University of Canterbury MainPower Scholar


 

The 2009 MainPower Electrical Engineering Scholarship was awarded to Matthew (Matt) Bright of Southbrook, Rangiora. Matt has lived his life in North Canterbury attending firstly Kaiapoi Borough Primary and then Rangiora New Life School. He achieved a Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Electro-technology) with Distinction from CPIT, where he majored in both communications engineering and computer engineering. After gaining direct entry to the second professional year of the University of Canterbury's BE (Hons) (Electrical and Electronic Engineering), Matt will now pursue further studies in the electric power engineering industry. Matthew Bright

 

During the summer university holidays, Matt has been working in the network division of MainPower.  He has redesigned the oil containment facilities for Amberley zone substation, which MainPower Contracting will be constructing. He gathered data around the use of the generator truck during outages for consideration of a possible charge back regime; and provided calculations to confirm if MainPower's zone substations comply with ECan resource consent for substation oil containment and discharge. He has also worked on numerous Computer Aided Design (CAD )and database projects.
