Warm Homes Programme

In 2009 the Government introduced insulation subsidies to all income groups through its Warm up New Zealand Heat Smart programme. MainPower continues to offer support in this area by sponsoring Community Energy Action, a charitable trust which offers these subsidies to all incomes with a further top-up subsidy to low income households, including rentals where the tenant has a community services card.   Anyone wanting their home insulated should contact Community Energy Action directly on 03 374 7222 or 0800 GET WARM (0800 438 9276).

Community Energy Action also runs a free Energy Advice Service.

Householders, both homeowners and tenants of all incomes, can get information on all home energy issues such as how best to keep warm at an affordable price, hot water use, condensation, the best power plan, which retailer to choose, etc.

Until the end of February 2012 the Energy Advice Service with financial assistance from MainPower, offers Home Energy Checks (valued at $250) to Kaiapoi green zone residents for free.

A Home Energy Check is a comprehensive energy check of a home tailored to its occupants’ needs and means and is suitable for both homeowners and tenants.
