Connecting to the MainPower network ensures the electricity you purchase from your retailer gets to your property. In order to get connected to the MainPower network you need to complete a Connection Application form. Please also read MainPower's Connection Agreement which outlines our relationship and roles and responsibilities when you connect to our network.
To download a new connection application form click here. Alternatively an application form can also be obtained directly from MainPower by phoning 03 311 8300. Once we get your application we check if a suitable power supply is available to your site and then arrange our field staff to carry out the connection. If power is not readily available we will arrange for a new power design and a free quotation for your power supply.
The complete process of connecting to MainPower's Network and getting power to your property takes a minimum of 15 working days.
View the Connection Process chart to understand the processes involved with getting a new power connection.
At any time you can contact MainPower in order to check the progress on your connection.
The low voltage line from your boundary into your property (which may be an underground or overhead line) is called the service main. The service main belongs to you.
You are responsible for ensuring this section of line is in good condition to ensure yours and your family’s safety, and to prevent faults. You are also liable for any costs of maintenance on this section of line.
By keeping trees clear of your service main, you minimise the risk of damage caused by high winds and snowfall. However, working on trees around overhead lines can be very dangerous.
Please contact MainPower to discuss your options. Liability for damage to MainPower’s network in the event of an incident rests with the person who has caused the incident. The costs of causing a power outage to other customers on the line can be very high, particularly if those customers are commercial businesses.
Always check with MainPower first. Phone (03) 311 8300 for advice and assistance.
