Trees & Wires

MainPower is always concerned about people’s safety around overhead power lines.  We ask our staff to constantly monitor tree, shrub and vegetation growth near power lines, to prevent potential hazards.

Contact MainPower if you consider your trees are close to, or are in, actual contact with overhead power lines.  MainPower has contractors who are able to trim the trees safely.

If you are planning a tree planting programme there are some key things to think about. Read here before you start planning your planting project.

To ensure safety in the community and help maintain a consistent supply of electricity, government regulations define safe distances between trees, branches and vegetation, and overhead power lines.

The regulations specify who is responsible for ensuring clearances are maintained, placing potential liability on the owner of the tree or vegetation if any damage or accident occurs due to vegetation touching overhead power lines.
