Registrations have now closed for the Warm up Kaikoura programme. Three hundred homes will have been insulated by 30 June 2009 with some, or all of the core measures of under-floor and ceiling insulation, exterior door draft stoppers and cylinder wraps.
Warm up Kaikoura is an energy efficiency project and those homes which have been insulated are warmer, drier, healthier and more comfortable, and they cost less to heat. The feedback from home owners is most positive with many noticing a considerable difference in the room temperatures immediately.
The Warm up Kaikoura Programme was a special one off project between MainPower and Energywise. The programme was a pilot scheme to determine a process that could be used across New Zealand to warm up whole communities, as opposed to scattered homes. The average cost of insulating a home with the core measures of ceiling and under floor insulation, draft stoppers and cylinder wraps is between $2,500 and $3,000, depending on the size of the home and what measures are needed.
