The Youth Sports Scholarships (established in 2004) has been developed to aid and assist local talent to perform to their utmost ability while raising the profile of the region as a whole.
Such a Scholarship provides an obtainable goal for the youth of the region to strive for and initiate a foundation that will breed a regional culture of sporting success and excellence.
MainPower funds three Youth Sports Scholarships at an annual cost of $9,000.
Another successful Awards night was held on the 29th October with the North Canterbury region celebrating the high achieving results of it's local young sports people.

| Runner-Up Scholarships were awarded to Eve McFarlane & Beatrix Heaphy-Hall.
Eve & Beatrix competed in the New Zealand Junior Rowing team at the Junior World Championships in 2010, where they won Gold in the Women's Coxless Four. Congratulations to you both! |

MainPower’s Youth Sports Scholar has Canterbury records approved.
At its meeting on the 16 September 2010, Athletics Canterbury Track and Field Committee verified a new record set by Angie Smit, MainPower’s 2009 Youth Sports Scholarship winner.
Angie set the new record in the 800 metres Senior Women’s, Women’s 19, and Women’s 18 grades of 2 min 03.87sec. She set the record at the World Junior Championships in Victoria BC, Canada on 7 July 2010.
