This year, the Greta Valley Village Association and Mark Davis each received $3000 from the MainPower Hurunui Environment Fund. Established in partnership with the Hurunui District Council, the fund is open to residents of the Hurunui District and encourages voluntary and cooperative community partnerships working towards increasing the region’s biodiversity.
MainPower is completing a planned upgrade of the electricity network servicing the Bennetts, Cust, West Eyreton and Swannanoa area, as part of the company’s long term strategic plan to deliver a safe, secure and reliable electricity distribution network. Work will be carried out on weekdays and is expected to be completed no later than August.
The 2014 North Canterbury Business Awards have all been decided and a wonderful Gala event announcing all the Winners and Runners Up was held recently.
Established in partnership with the Hurunui District Council, the MainPower Hurunui Natural Environment Fund supports community initiatives to improve the district’s biodiversity. $10,000 is given annually to projects in the Hurunui area that improve or benefit the natural environment.
Holly Greenslade was named top MainPower Sports Scholar for 2014 at the recent North Canterbury Sports Awards. Holly who only started rowing in 2010 has gone on to achieve great things in her chosen sport including three gold medals at the Under 21 Regatta in Australia, two national titles at the New Zealand Championships, three gold medals at the New Zealand Universities Championships and three gold medals at the International University Rowing Championships in China.
North Canterbury electricity lines company, MainPower New Zealand Limited, has officially opened its new premises at Southbrook Business Park with the help of the region’s youth. In contrast to traditional building openings, MainPower handed over the responsibility for the opening ceremony to student representatives from the region’s 41 primary schools.
