Innovative safety ideas rewarded at MainPower

The winner of the 2015 MainPower Workplace Safety Innovation Award was Steve Monk, MainPower Plant Operator. Steve’s winning idea was a frame that secures cable drums when they are being transported on forklifts.

Every year MainPower hold the Workplace Safety Innovation Award, which is open to all employees. The competition calls for innovative ideas that will improve workplace and public safety.

The 2015 winning entry, which Steve designed and implemented himself, reduces the risk of injury or property damage by preventing cable drums from slipping or moving while being transported.

The frame is also a time saver, as one person is able to place the cable drum onto the frame, then onto the forklift, without any assistance.

The MainPower Workplace Safety Innovation Award was introduced in 2011 and has generated over 50 ideas, many of which have been introduced.

Safety is a key priority for MainPower. Through the Workplace Safety Innovation Award programme, our staff take a hands on approach to improving safety for themselves, their workmates and our community.

Once the cable drum is loaded onto the frame, the forks are slipped into place and the drum can be securely lifted and transported.
