Thirty North Canterbury schools and charitable organisations have been named as recipients of the 2019 MainPower Community Fund.
North Canterbury’s electricity distributors, MainPower New Zealand Limited, have been running the contestable fund since 2015. Chief Executive Andy Lester is pleased with how the fund has evolved over the years.
“Due to the popularity of the Community Fund, we increased the funding available to $30,000 in 2019, a $10,000 increase,” says Mr. Lester. “We also introduced a separate voting stage, where a group of finalists were profiled online, allowing members of the community to have a say in where the funds will be allocated.”
$20,000 has been allocated to community groups and $10,000 to school projects. The recipients represent a range of community activities.
“Whether the funding is going towards giving kids the chance to learn about the environment, or supporting the region’s most vulnerable, the key thing is that all of the recipients are doing great things for North Canterbury,” Mr. Lester adds.
