Programme Manager - Governance and Best Practice Project Delivery

  • Establish and lead a business focused PMO in this new leadership role
  • Drive best practice project management and governance across the business
  • Join this commercially successful, locally owned organisation and make an impact.

MainPower New Zealand Limited is a commercially successful, locally owned company which has been distributing electricity throughout the North Canterbury and Kaikoura regions for nearly 100 years.  With assets in excess of $250 million, MainPower supplies electricity through its lines services to a population of over 65,000 – the vast majority of whom are shareholders – and across a geographical area of 11,180 square kilometres.

MainPower is working through a variety of exciting changes focused on new technologies and innovation which has identified the need for a Programme Manager to lead how projects are governed and managed across the business.  Are you ready to step up to this exciting role?

Reporting to the Assets and Capital Works Manager, leading a small team of project managers and working across the business with stakeholders and internal customers; the Programme Manager takes overall accountability for the establishment and implementation of a high functioning and effective Project Management Office (PMO) and through this will provide leadership and governance across the organisation’s key projects.

Other accountabilities of the Programme Manager include:

  • Monitoring, reviewing and reporting on the material projects underway within the organisation;
  • Providing guidance, inspiration and tools to project managers and teams;
  • Providing objective visibility to the leadership team, Chief Executive and the Board of Directors on the progress of the material projects underway within the organisation.

This is not a Project Management role but will suit a professional with exceptional Project Management capability who is keen to take the step up to Programme Management within a PMO framework.

To be successful in this role, you will be a skilled Project Manager with experience across a range of commercially focused projects – ideally within civil construction, infrastructure or utilities.  You will have worked within or led an effective PMO and you will know what is required to drive project and program excellence. A capable leader and communicator; you will inspire performance in others and confidently contribute to discussions with wide ranging impacts with your colleagues. A strong relationship manager with exceptional influencing skills; you will understand that success is closely linked to the strength of the relationships you have built.

In return, you will be rewarded with this unique opportunity to contribute to the continued success of this well-established Canterbury organisation. Sound like you?
